Subject: Camp Forrest
 

DID MY BASIC TRAINING AT CAMP FORREST IN FEBRUARY 1942 WITH THE ILLINOIS NATIONAL GUARD 131ST INFANTRY 33RD DIVISION. WAS A SENT TO FORT BRADY MICHIGAN DOING LOCKGUARD DUTY FROM THERE TO THE 371ST GENERAL SERVICE ENGINEERS AND FINALLY THE ARMY AIR CORPS WHERE I SERVED AS A BALL TURRET GUNNER ON A B 17. SURVIVED 33 MISSIONS AND RETURNED IN ONE PIECE AND AM STILL AROUND AT 91 A BIT WORN, BUT FUNCTIONAL.

STILL AROUND AT 91....... HAVING DONE MY BASIC AT CAMP FORREST... INFANTRY WITH THE 131ST....TO FORT BRADY MICHIGAN  LOCK GUARD DUTY.......CAMP ELLIS ILLINOIS  WITH THE 371ST GENERAL SERVICE ENGINEERS... VOLUNTEERED TO JOIN THE US ARMY AIRFORCE... WENT TO KINGMAN ARIZONA... TRAINED AS A BALL TURRET GUNNER... COMPLETED 33 MISSIONS IN THE ETO... EVERY NOW AND THEN I SEARCH THE INTERNET FOR PLACES I HAVE BEEN ....ACTUALLY FORGOT THAT I HAD KP SERVING GERMAN PRISONERS OF WAR.....AND FINALLY HELPED TO DROP THE BOMBS ON GERMANY
